Backpacking 75K on the West Coast Trail - Vancouver Island, BC

PHOTOS AND NOTES - DAY 1 2 3 4

DAY 3 - August 24, 2016

The objective for Day 3 was a comfortable 20K of hiking to Camper Creek with the ultimate goal of shortening the distance we had to go on Day 4 to reach the Gordon River ferry before its last run at 1530. The day broke down into 10K of beach walking and 10K of forest hiking with a visit to Monique's burger stand early in the day. The gravel/sand beach made for tough hiking, so as often as possible we sought the harder surface of the tidal flats. With the tides out the shelf offered more variety of the life that lives and dies by the ebb and flow of the tides. The geology alone was fascinating, with all sorts of eroded formations and resistant rocks.

A rather busy Camper Creek campground.

Otter tracks on the beach.

One with the birds.
