Grandfather Mountain Trail Run
The second peak along Grandfather Mountain is MacRae Peak at 5844'. From here the
trail descends almost straight down to the parking lot. It was with considerable surprise
that I saw beaucoup people of all ages climbing up from below to experience the views
and scrambling up the ladders and over the rocks. While it is dangerous, exercising care
and taking one's time enabled many folks escaping from down below to experience
something truly exceptional. It was an absolutely fantastic place to introduce children
to the rigors of climbing higher, however, I truly believe it comes natural to most. There
is a monkey inside each of us somewhere.

This campsite had a platform to set up a large tent on... and it had a super view... charge. This ladder went down into a crevasse where you couldn't even
stand up straight.
